"It seems to me that we have a lot of story left to tell." - Walt Disney
How Did It All Start?
We are followers of Jesus who simply want to live life together without the baggage that is too common with religious experiences. We have been enabling new life in this community since 1870. We have taken on a variety of forms through the years. We had the big church campus with all of the programs that anyone would want and the basketball goals to go with it. Then, we realized that we weren’t playing a game. We wanted to live life together without having to worry about maintaining a property. In other words, we are drawn to the ways of Jesus that lead to new life for all.
Who Participates in the Community?
Some of us have been a part of the church since we were young. Others are new to this journey called following Jesus. Some of us love contemplative practices while others want to sing songs by U2 or Crowder. Some of us have clarity on most days in what we believe while others are not sure if they believe just yet, but find the community in which they were searching.
What Motivates Us?
We are dedicated to adding beauty to our community. One way that we do it is by supporting LGBTQ+ friends who want to be who God created them to be. It can also come in the form of supporting a local non-profit that offers infants and children who are homeless a safe place to go while their parents find a job or go to school. Another passion that we share is preventing human trafficking that happens in our backyard. For more information, go to our "adding beauty" section
How are Decision Made?
WE ARE a part of THE FIRST denomination BORN IN THE UNITED STATES. WE HAVE DEMOCRATIC TENDENCIES IN OUR GOVERNANCE. NOBODY IS A KING OR QUEEN IN OUR COMMUNITY. INSTEAD, OUR PASTOR, JONATHAN, ACTS MORE AS A CURATOR THAN A RULER. A CURATOR IS SOMEONE WHO GIVES SHAPE AND OVERALL FEEL TO AN EXPERIENCE, SUCH AS ART. A CURATING PASTOR ALLOWS EACH PERSON TO EXPERIENCE GOD’S PRESENCE IN HER OR HIS OWN WAY. for us, we find god in all of the colors in between black and white. we hope that YOU WILL FIND AUTHENTICITY AND OTHERS WHO FIND MEANING IN THE WAYS OF JESUS.
It is easier to have a black and white mentality, but we find God in all of the colors in between.
WE ALWAYS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO BE WRONG. THAT BEGINS WITH OUR CURATING PASTOR, JONATHAN. IT ISN’T THAT WE AREN’T CLEAR IN OUR BELIEFS; IT IS THAT GOD IS STILL SPEAKING AND EACH ONE OF US HAS A FRAGMENT OF GOD’S WISDOM. SO, WE LISTEN AND RESPECT EACH OTHER. THIS IS WHY WE DON’T HAVE A TYPICAL TOP-DOWN SERMON. WE HAVE MORE OF A CONVERSATION BECAUSE WE ARE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THIS THING CALLED LIFE.
